i like lots of it.

and sometimes i hate lots of it.

 at the end of the day i would say a must for me is a great mix of old and new, a mostly neutral palette with a nice balance of pattern, texture and (muted) color.  nothing overly decorated.  even though i like looking at those rooms in magazines and on blogs.  in my own home, too much color and too many pillows irritates the shit out of me. 

but..that can change and usually does with my period.

WHAT 3 THINGS CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?

yoga, wine and tv.

but coffee should be there too.

bc those 4 things keep me from murdering my family.

who should probably also be on this list.

i am black.

i hate cheese.

i am a regional spelling bee champ.

MOST TREASURED POSSESION?

my toilet.

i don't know.

i don't own my family so i can't say them..

i have cheap mini blinds.

i would say my living room bc it's where i watch TV with my hands down my pants.

i want to have a farm with a lot of cats and chickens.

on this farm i want to have a major kitchen for which to make jellies and jams.

i intend to win an oscar (but i will settle for an emmy) and i intend to do my best to make sure my daughter is happy.

and i want to blog about it all until my fingers bleed.

I'm an INFJ, I have a huge affinity for 90s music, and I'm adopted. Though my last name might've tipped some people off.

YOUR MOST TREASURED POSSESSION

I have two. The first is this necklace my grandmother gave me. It belonged to her grandmother and dates back to the 1920s. It's a large piece of amber, and I wear it with practically everything. I love that it's been in the family that long. My other is my engagement ring. My fiance proposed in January. He and I are not big on gifts, so when I found out he spent weeks personally designing the ring -- down to the last prong on the setting -- it meant a lot to me.

DIRTY LITTLE SECRET

I can't even believe I'm sharing these photos, but here's my dirty little secret. On any given day, my desk looks like a tornado hit it. Trust me, this is semi-cleaned up and definitely functional (to me, at least!). It's because I'm always making lists and notes on little pieces of paper, I have to have my day planner out in front of me, aaaand I also basically live at my desk. My entire life always ends up on it. In our bedroom, we have a chair that's one of the last pieces of college furniture. We both hate it, and it always ends up with clothes and bed pillows strewn on or around it. Let's also note the pile of laundry in the background there. Lovely.

YOUR FAVE ROOM IN YOUR HOME

It used to be my office, but now I think I spend too much time in there! So it's probably our front living room. It's serene, has great natural light, and features the bar cart I found at an antique store for less than $100. That room just makes me happy.

This is tough! I feel like I'm right where I need to be. Hmm...maybe a novelist! Or a school teacher.

Hmmm...? Since I'm struggling to think of something groundbreaking here are 3 random facts: I'm addicted to Trader Joe's pineapple juice. I almost never drink water (horrible, I know but it is fact) and I buy way too many books that I never read. It's wasteful and it's a problem.

I have three vintage watches that I inherited from my grandfather. They are incredibly important to me and every time I wear them I think of him.

DIRTY LITTLE SECRET

I'm a magazine hoarder. They're taking over my apartment! And I sometimes leave dishes in the sink for far longer than they should ever be left there. (Ew)

YOUR FAVE ROOM IN YOUR HOME

My living room. It's where I spend the most time and it's such a comforting space.

Rich and skinny! Ha! I'd love to just be happily married with kids and a cute cockapoo in an impeccably decorated house with a pool and a flower garden. And preferably living on the West Coast.

I actually love our yard the most! If I HAVE to pick one inside, I'd choose the kitchen.

I would be a Master Herbalist and Doctor of Naturopathy on Mondays and Tuesdays, a painter and photographer on Wednesdays and Thursdays, a professional skateboarder on Fridays, a midwife on Saturdays and a world class chef on Sundays.

Pillows in Action

Katie here, pleasure to meet you all!

So for weeks now I have been admiring all the pillows at The Shoppe! Literally watering at the mouth every time I look at them, neatly folded behind the glass doors of my office bookshelves. I have been holding myself back…. attempting to not even try one on for size, because I knew I would love them all. But then the other night, it happened – I could no longer hold back my urge to make my pillow dreams a reality. I was on pillow crack - smiling from ear to ear as I created pillow combo's that totally changed the vibe of my space.  

And you know what they say... 

"Better pillows make a better wife" - that's the pitch to my husband :) 

Will work for pillows!?! 

So here is what I came up with...

My dining nook:

 The colorful and textured mix totally funks up my otherwise traditional Windsor Smith fabric.  I am in love!

I couldn't stop there...I had to throw one on my couch as well...

What kinda (BLANK) are you?

Remember when I said that I was praying that my little G would be the best little girl ever and obey my wishes for her to leave her raging tantrums at home.

and 

Remember when I said I hoped that the dreaded jet lag would skip her sweet self and that she would fall right back into a dream sleep/awake ratio??

Well

 none of that happened.

She screamed and fidgeted and cried and flipped out the whole damn plane ride. The last 2 hours she finally fell asleep. And let me tell you, I have never wanted to cry so hard in my life!!!!!!

Tired doesn't begin to express how I am feeling. I am praying that my solo mommy and G (Sans Duck) journey on the way home will be less painful.

The whole experience has me craving a little mental escape
