Just cause shes soooooooo cute
Dear G, I could have never, ever thought one little tiny person could fill my life with so much love and joy. Honestly, most days I am at a loss for words and can't even express how much I love you. Your little now and don't understand such complicated emotions but trust me when I say I would lay my life down for you. One day you may read this and I hope you do. You are the reason and driving force for most things I do especially this whole career thing I got going on. I strive to set a good example for you and I pray that if I teach you nothing else, maybe you'll learn that following your dreams is the most wonderful feeling in the world. I want to thank you for being the thing that reminded me the importance of life and love. I want to thank you for showing me how to be humble and patient and look at the big picture of life everyday. You are the reason for everything I do and I love you very very much!

Happy Mothers Day to me!
Since G was born I have never been away from her for longer than a 10 hour work day... I think I would die of anxiety and probably rip my skin off cause I missed her so much.....However lately the Duck and I are in desperate need of some alone time. Not because we need time away from G but because we need time away as a couple and time away to not be so exhausted most days and nights that we can barely have a conversation. We have been together for 7 years on the 11th of may and we thought it was time to have a night away as a couple. No G :(
My awesome Mom has offered to stay the night here next weekend with G and Penny{the dog} and babysit so we could escape away to the desert. I am super excited and cannot wait.................. but I am also EXTREMELY sad and anxious thinking that for the first time in 20 months I won't have the sound of her on the baby monitor in my ear as she sleeps. I won't be able to hold her or kiss her goodnight and good morning.
No joke as I type these words I am crying.
I have decided to focus on the good it will do for my husband and I and think of the fact that I will be able to possibly sleep in past 6 am...or better yet, not have to rush out of bed to get a bottle and start my day with a not so mellow almost 2 year old running around the place.
We are staying at one of my favorite Palm Springs hotels the Viceroy.
I will try to be drunk at least 98 percent of the trip, swim for at least 9 hours straight, and will not be bringing my computer. GASP! No work, no blog, no nothing but desert heat and alcohol.
The thought of a date night away has me thinking outfits... I came up with this.
BTW those are my new boots from H by Hudson and I am obsessed with them.

Calling Cards?
Ever notice how with some designers you can always tell it's there work because they tend to put a personal "stamp" on each room? I have a thing for spotting these "stamps" out and I guess as a designer I am always trying to figure out my own calling card or "stamp"..... What makes a room I do look like a room that I did...thoughts?
For example:
Nicky Kehoe: This particular design team loves their typography and symbols. Letters and words seem to be hidden in a lot of there rooms artwork. I think they do it well and I like the added touch it gives to the spaces they create.
Kelly Weartstler always has some humongous weird headless bust or a giant pile of golden horse poop in every room she does...I always associate her style with strange accoutrement's that are both annoying and awesome at the same time.
Peter Dunham: This fella LOVES his own designed fabrics and from the looks of things it seems that when you hire him to decorate your space, there is no doubt you better LOVE his fabrics as well cause they will be littered throughout your home...To me this is a great thing considering I am a big fat fan of all things Dunham.
Amanda Nisbet: She is so talented let me tell you. She can literally take any ol' crap and make it shine. Her calling card is pops of color. She will take one particular color and pop it throughout the room. Below I showed you her purple pops...she likes those.
Tell me if you have noticed other designers calling cards... I am intrigued.
Do you think mine might be funky rugs? a bit of ethnic? hmmm

Behind the Scenes!
I have been known to break rules and cross boundaries so out on this limb I crawl. Yesterday was a day filled with flash bulbs and world mustache competition champions.
{no seriously I am not kidding. 15" straight out StacheMan}
I wish I could divulge more into it, however I have a gag order....and will most certainly have a hit on my head for leaking such precious information.
I may or may not be sharing some really exciting news with you lovers very soon......here are a couple of images of whats been going on around here lately. BTW the fella with the camera is the said Moustache Champion... Again, I am not kidding.
Hmm..what could possibly be going on over at Amber Interiors?

Just to change the subject a little.... take a look at these pretty flowers I arranged to sit on my bedside table. Aren't they pretty!

DIY Book Nook
I can not take credit for a single second of this DIY. The Duck is a damn genius and a tool master. He has become "captain builds all" so quickly it's almost crazy to think he had never built anything more than Ikea furniture up until January THIS YEAR....like 2011,,, and so far he has built some pretty astounding things.
seen here, here and here.
When we re-built our kitchen we had this weird extra wall area that did nothing but annoy me....We decided to build a nook and one day fill it with built in bookshelves. It has sat there empty until today...WOOHOO!
The Duck has built some really cool floating shelves and I will give you a little how to here:
Materials for one shelf...{then repeat the steps to make multiple shelves}
3/4 inch pine planks for the top of each shelf
1/4 inch MDF panels for the bottom...this gives the shelf an overall thickness of 1 3/4"
3/4" square poplar batons...square pieces of wood you screw into the studs to use as support for floating shelves
3" screws
drywall anchors and screws
Wood glue
Dap painters caulk
Wood Filler and Sandpaper
How to Steps.....
We framed out the bottom to have the bottom shelf be the same height as our 5 1/2" moulding using 2x6" and a piece of moulding...Then the Duck found the studs and screwed the poplar baton to the wall using 3" screws. On the side of our book nook there were no studs so this is where the drywall anchors were used. The length of the side batons should be the width of the shelf minus the front and rear batons
After cutting the pine to the correct length, he attached a piece of the poplar to the underside of the front using wood glue and 18gauge finishing nails.
This piece will then sit on the batons that have been screwed into the wall. He drilled 6 countersink holes in the shelf. 2 on each side and 2 on the rear. Using 1" wood screws he attached the shelf to the batons.. then used finishing nails every 2-3 inches around the shelf to secure it.
He then cut the MDF panel to size, clamped it to the front of the shelf and secured this using finishing nails. The shelf is now complete and in place. The front needed sanding to get the 3 pieces of wood flat. we used a finishing sander with 80 grit paper. Then we filled all the gaps, screw and nail holes with wood filler and sanded it all with 150 grit paper until baby bum smooth.

Quick POst
Ever since Trad Home popped up in the Sphere I was pleasantly reminded of this here Fellas work.... ain't it purty? I love how he can just throw a room together and make it look so relaxed and casually chic.
