DIY Ottoman..boringness

Ok blurghhhh and ho hum yawn.
Been thriftin and DIY'in and here are some pics of what I have scored in the past couple days. Totally boring I know so I am following that up with a little inspiration..

25 Bucks for the pair!!

Bought this hunk of crap for 12 bucks. I had a suzani from Ebay that was 25 bucks...so the two made out and created this BABY! Boring and done I know but I couldn't help myself.

This cool pendant was 50 bucks..not bad, and its 22" wide!

Globes..

Tip of the Year:

Don't ever design your own house if you are an interior designer......all it does is cause severe waffling and constant obsessing.... Yesterday I decided I wanted to change every light fixture in the house..AGAIN.  I decided I hate my pendant lights I bought for above the island and instead I want to do something totally different. Pretty much my whole life has turned upside down trying to make a decision on frickin pendant lights. If this was a client these damn lights would be purchased and perfect by now.

BTW the Duck totally wants me to "shut-up about these lights already and just pick something, or don't pick anything and wait till you like something"

If only it was that simple...and I could just listen. Get a Grip AMBER

here is my current inspiration..

Update:

Remember the commercial with the eggs in a frying pan saying something along the lines of "this is what your brain looks like on drugs".... Well folks, I officially have a fried egg head. Not because of drugs, no sir, but because of the re-model hell we are living in. Between the constant Mariachi music blasting from 7am-6pm, to the constant microscopic dust that despite all plastic, double blanket barrier sealed hallways, vents, and passage ways, somehow manages to still settle on every single surface in my home...Even the damn cat is covered in dust.  The constant "money pit-esque" two week time lines and the never ending trips to Home Repot Depot, have done me and my poor little family in for a loop. I am pretty sure when we started this whole process we were on crack cocaine. We have a 16 month old who has more energy than a lightning bolt and who has basically, through no fault of her own, discovered that running from one room to the next is her only source of entertainment at the moment. Bless her heart.
{She is so getting a diamond encrusted Mercedes for her 2nd birthday,just because of the guilt we are carrying around for doing this to her}

Anyways, despite all the frustration and complete ball ache, ball face, BALLS, we are kinda near being finished. The walls are currently being given their second coat of mud and the paint is going up on Thursday. The cabinets will hopefully be going up on Saturday and then the floors can start next week sometime.

Next time I re-model my own home, someone please remind me to karate kick myself in the temple!!!!

Progress shots: and "G"being patient and awesome.

NEw DIY

This image is making me think of G's room...I am kind of obsessed with modern art for my little monkey. I keep thinking bold color and minimalistic furniture.... a bit of whimsy! (yes i used that word and yes I just punched myself in the mouth)

There is a vibe board coming your way... So hold tight.

white walls

I am faced with yet another conundrum in our house saga. Do we paint white walls or go with a neutral gray color palette??  The Duck and I are leaning towards white in the living areas and colors in the bedrooms and office. I will post my fave color rooms tomorrow but today here is a dose of white.

Lighter art

What a concept. This PyroManiac is on to something. Burn your ceiling with a lighter to make an awesome canopy design. Ok maybe this is not the most practical, or parent-like behavior, but I really want to take a stab at doing something amazing on G's ceiling. This is my current inspiration. The artists name is Olivier Kosta-Théfaine

Who wouldn't want to slip off into slumber with this as your last vision before nigh-night?

Kids table project

Let me start by saying kids furniture ain't cheap. Over Christmas the Duck and I searched to buy a cute and affordable play table for G. It was slim pickings out there and we were faced with the decision to buy something expensive that will be boring and get trashed, or buy some crappy plastic craft table that I would cringe looking at in our new beautiful house??
I bought the Duck a set of tools for x-mas and little did I know he would become the Carpenter Extraordinaire!! He decided to MAKE G's table from scratch. He found the plans on AnnaWhite and started building. I painted it white and found a can of reminiscent home depot pink paint for .50 cents and painted the alphabet on top. The chair I spray painted with Rust-OLeum Berry Pink. All the wood cost 12 bucks.  Cute and Cheap!

Girl crush!

Ok I am totally obsessed with Erin Martin's design sense. She is funny, and doesn't seem to take her self to seriously which is right up my alley. I just got the new House Beautiful and one of her projects is inside. Can I just say, It is stunning. Not because it is particularly my style, but because her attention to detail and her ability to create these uniquely beautiful interiors is inspiring. In my mind she is what a talented designer truly is. She is an artist in her own right with the ability to paint a canvas to live in. (does that even make sense). Plus did I mention she was funny? Take a look at her website. She has a tab called "new shite". Go On Gurl!

Deep Breaths and Happy Places....

So this whole living through a re-model thing is no joke. I am certainly no stranger to it because since I can remember, every childhood home I have ever lived in has been is various stages of construction. My Dad is a builder and has basically bought homes and demolished them for a living the majority of his life and mine.  My earliest memories as a kid involve watching walls come down and go up and hearing saws and nail guns blasting away.  Maybe this is why I became a designer? It's in the genes. Anyways fast forward a decade or 2 and the constant noise of construction has now infiltrated baby G's life. Wonder if she will grow up being drawn to live in a constant state of sawing and smashing? Haha. Our house is Loud and chaotic and I am LOVING every second of it...seriously. I may moan about the living quarters and the fact that the heat was off last night and we were a bit cold (thermostat read 56), and I wine about the fact that we had no hot water, but I have to be honest in saying...its my favorite kind of pain in the arse! The kind that in the end will result in one AMAZING KITCHEN and all my dream home ideas will come to fruition. .... Some more progress shots.
