I am HOME
I know you know what a weird and whirlwind few weeks its been.
SO
I am not going to bore you with my bitchin and moanin about a gosh damn thing.
I am gonna swiftly change the whole tone here and get back to business as usual.
Lets talk about fashion shall we ?
Just like this year so far...my wardrobe needs a major do over
Normally, I would run into some chainy affordable joints like Forever21, or H&M and just buy a bunch of shit that's on trend and cheap....The new me ain't getting down like this anymore.
In my desire to do shit better, I am changing this philosophy. Instead I am going to save up a bit and drop more cash on fewer things that will last me longer. Maybe this is no "new" concept to you smart lovers....but for me it will be a big deal.
I am going to start with these staples.. I suggest you follow along
2 new sweaters, both neutral both comfy both conducive to layers underneath
2 new jackets, 1 edgy faux leather + 1 comfy army. both great for layering
2 new bags. 1 for color pop and functionality, 1 for "chic on the go" that blends with everything
option 1

I so want to do this too- my closet if filled with crap. Love your staples!
ReplyDeleteLove it! My entire work concept with clients is less is more and quality over quantity! Yes, less expensive chain stores are perfect for adding the trends but good quality basics are a must! www.pinkpagodastyle.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I'm so with you--my new year's resolution this year is to stop buying cheap crap!
ReplyDeleteStyle in pairs? I like that idea.. I'll be sure to use this as a reference next time I'm out at the mall.
ReplyDeleteI love those bags...I'll take both! >I wish<
ReplyDeletePositively agree. Less is more. Simplicity is contagious.
ReplyDeleteGet a grip, everyone: I just knew that there would be loads of posts saying jackets before I even read the first response. Don't you people ever get bored of being so predictable? Once you jump off a cliff without a parachute, it's too late to worry about the landing five seconds before you will hit the ground.
ReplyDeletegame on! I'm doing this for Winter too! lovT
ReplyDeleteThose black flats are perfect!

I just came across your blog and I am hooked! Love your style and that military inspired jacket is amazing. I have been on the hunt for one and this one is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLove the bags - gorge!
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea! We truly believe that the state of American industry and manufacturing would be in far better shape if everyone adopted this philosophy. Buy great goods produced by a company you love and enjoy them for years to come.
ReplyDeleteYour choices are just the right mix of classic colors, interesting details, and on trend style to get you through more than a few seasons. And you'll sleep better at night knowing they weren't produced by a shoeless 10 year old!
I absolutely LOVE your blog! I have gotten so many ideas from your blog! Thank you so much! I am new to the blog world and would LOVE your follow!

Like you, I’m in need of an updated wardrobe and this seems like the perfect year to do just that! You found some nice picks. I really like the royal blue purse and soft cream sweater you’ve picked out, nice! Now if I could just decide which pieces to keep and which ones to donate, I’d be set. I wonder if I should go through the old pieces first and then buy or buy first so I know which pieces I’ve found nice replacements for or add on to. How would you go about this?
ReplyDeleteoh, you are definitely on to something Amber. i did a project on style and sustainability years ago and eventually I got rid of about half of my clothes. instead of buying disparate or random things i loved, i started to look at building a wardrobe. i focused in on what i wanted that to look like and also how my clothes needed to function for my life - much like with interior design. I shopped much less and invested in what i really wanted. they say we wear 20% of our clothing 80% of the time. i think it is interesting to take note of what that 20% is, and if it is working for us, maximize it.
